11 Day Uganda Volunteering & Gorilla tour

PrintSee the stunning wildlife and scenery Uganda has to offer as well as volunteer at local projects. This tour combines gorilla trekking, safari and volunteering which will really make your trip unique and worthwhile. See the sample itinerary below for more details.

On this safari, you will get to see the endangered mountain gorillas but also use your skills and time to help out the people you meet.

Day 1:  Arrival Entebbe

On arrival, you will be met by a representative of Msafiri Tours who will transfer you to your hotel in Entebbe. You will stay overnight at Airport Guest House, The Boma Guest House or Protea Hotel Entebbe. Meal plan D

Day 2: Volunteering

After breakfast, your tour guide will take you to your volunteer project. In the evening, you will head back for dinner and have an overnight stay at Hotel New Madagascar, Cassia Lodge or Le Petit Village. Meal plan B, L & D

Day 3: Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, you will depart to Lake Mburo National Park arriving in time for lunch. In the evening, enjoy a peaceful boat safari viewing crocodiles, buffaloes and hippos as well as colourful kingfishers, magnificent fish eagles, hammer kops and even the prehistoric looking shoebill. Dinner and overnight stay at Rwonyo Camp, Mantana Tented Camp or Mihingo Lodge. Meal plan B, L & D

Day 4: Volunteering

After breakfast, you will join the community to work with the local people. Projects include constructing schools, assisting in health clinics, cultivating a community garden, making crafts or digging a road leading to a trading centre. Return to the camp in the evening. Meal plan B, L & D

Day 5: Lake Mburo National Park to Bwindi National Park

You will take an early morning guided nature walk in the park. Expect to see warthogs, elands, Uganda kobs, buffaloes and many birds. You will return to the lodge for breakfast then depart to Bwindi National Park. It is a scenic drive through big terraced hills, valleys and forests. Dinner and overnight stay at Buhoma Community Banda, Engagi Lodge or Mahogany springs. Meal plan B, L & D

Day 6: Bwindi gorilla trekking

After an early breakfast, you will be led to the briefing point where you will be guided on how to spend time gorilla trekking. It is unpredictable how long the activity may take be due to the mobility of gorillas although it usually takes between 2 to 8 hours. Once the gorillas are located, you will spend a maximum of one hour watching them. Due to the nature of the terrain in the forest, you need to be physically fit to enjoy the trekking. Your dinner and overnight stay will be at Buhoma Community Bandas, Engagi Lodge or Mahogany Springs. Meal plan B, L & D

Day 7: Bwindi National Park to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will depart to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Depending on the condition of the road, we may pass through the Ishasha sector where you may spot tree climbing lions. Dinner and overnight stay at Simba Safari Camp, Bush Lodge or Mweya Safari Lodge. Meal plan B, L & D

Day 8: Queen Elizabeth National Park

At 6:30am, you will set out for a game drive safari on the northerly parts of the park along the Kasenyi track. This is the best time for viewing the big cats, elephants, buffaloes and warthogs to name but a few. In the afternoon after lunch, you will cruise just meters from hundreds of enormous hippos and buffalos while elephants linger on the shoreline on the Kazinga channel that links Lake George to Lake Albert. Dinner and overnight stay at Simba Safari Camp, Bush Lodge or Mweya Safari Lodge. Meal plan B, L & D

Day 9: Volunteering

After breakfast, you will be volunteering with the communities staying adjacent the Queen Elizabeth National park. Enjoy a cultural dance performance by the village group in the evening or spend time playing local musical instruments and learn making crafts. Dinner and overnight stay at Simba Safari Camp, Bush Lodge or Mweya Safari Lodge. Meal plan B, L & D

Day 10: Return to Kampala

After a relaxed breakfast, we return to Kampala via Fort Portal that lies in the shadow of the Mountains of the Moon, arriving in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel New Madagascar, Cassia Lodge or Le Petit Village. Meal plan B, L & D

Day 11: Departure

After your experience of a lifetime, you will be transferred to Entebbe International Airport for your flight back home. Meal plan B, L End of service
